CULWISDOM: THE GREEKS

All cultures had myths and sometimes it is hard to understand them. Greek's myths are a beat more clear and they are beautiful.

The gods among all cultures were represented in many different ways. Greek's gods are more similar to humans. On one hand they seem to have a human body and, on the other hand, they seem to have human emotions and even human behavior.

Well, they are depicted in a very human way, but it does not mean they were human like. If they were then they were not gods. The reason is simple: The emotion expressed by a god is to depict something in particular. Anger, for example, represents that the god is not happy with whatever a person did. How could that be represented? Zeus chasing all those mortals look like he was a kind of human women lover. Nevertheless, that is a childish way to see it. This will be explain in another article, check on the bottom for links.

This is blog is to talk about those symbols and meaning. Ancient Greeks were amazing and it cannot be doubt about it.

When we see Greeks’ statues or their paintings or their architecture we feel the emotion of the artists who made them. Every culture had its charm and the Greeks really had it! Greek art is just marvelous!

Greeks have a great many myths: Perseus and Medusa, The deeds of Hercules, Theseus’ myth, Pygmalion and Galatea, etc.

They are written in such a marvelous way (I recommend you to read: Mythology by Edith Hamilton). You feel transported to the marvelous Greece and the great ancient cities. Believe it or not: Myths were created to exist for ever and let future generation to understand them to improve our quality of life.
Let’s try to understand the Greek’s myths…

Greeks are abundant on mythology. They grab all the fields: From heroes to love, gods, goddesses, unicorns, harpies, enchanted lands, etc.

The Odyssey and the Iliad are just marvelous! They are Masterpieces! Homer with his vivid imagination gave to the world an amazing work. Those books are worthy to be read. I love movies too and there are movies about these great books.
The glory of Achilles, Hercules, Perseus, Odysseus, etc. will never cease!

The Greeks’ Myths, as all other myths around the planet, are true things written in a symbolic way as the parables in the Bible. The wrong way is to take them in a literal way. How can you believe that the planet was made in seven days? How can you believe that Pygmalion fell in love of a statue made of rock? The important thing is to understand the meaning and if it is applicable to modern life!
